Fishing

Belize offers exhilarating sports fishing experiences! Whether you’re a seasoned angler or a novice eager to learn, Captain Nato’s Guides are your key to discovering the best fishing spots along the coast. From hidden hideouts to bustling fishing grounds, we know where the action is!

The Permit, Bonefish, and Tarpon are catch-and-release challenges – if you can hook them! But the Snooks, Snapper, and Jacks are yours to reel in and take home. Expect your arms to ache by the end of the day, but the satisfaction of landing some incredible fish will make it all worthwhile. You won’t be disappointed!

Our charters offer full fishing days and even a night fishing option, perfect for one or two anglers of any skill level. If you’re new to sport fishing, we’re here to help you gear up and share our expertise. We’re on the lookout for the sportiest of fish – Snooks, Snappers, Jacks, and Tarpon – and they call Corozal Bay and east to Ambergris Caye their home.

While some may call them tackle wreckers, we see them as great fishing opportunities! In Belize, we even have a challenge called the “Grand Slam” – catching one Permit, one Bonefish, and one Tarpon all in a single day. Remarkably, novice anglers often have incredible luck on their first try!

Our trips kick off from the pier nearest your hotel. Depending on the group size, we’ll fish from either a 23-foot flats fishing boat or our larger vessel, cruising the coastline in search of signs of fish. When it’s time for lunch, we’ll either stop at a sandy beach for a picnic lunch or, if luck is on our side, barbecue our morning’s catch for a delicious meal!

Captain Nato and his guides are intimately familiar with these waters and the incredible fish that inhabit them. Whether it’s your first fishing day or your 400th, we’ll strive to get you up close and personal with the best of Belize’s fish.

Explore our different types of day trips, from guided fishing adventures to family days on the water, and let us know which one is on your bucket list! These trips fill up quickly, so don’t hesitate to secure your spot.

Fly Fishing / Spin Casting

This is sport fishing at its best – catch and release – if you can!   We fish for Tarpon, Bonefish and Permit and the goal is to catch one of each… we call that the “Grand Slam” (see Fishing Info/Grand Slam).  It’s challenging but it can be done!   The gear you need is listed on our Fishing Info/Our Gear tab.  Your local fly shop can help you with anything you need.

We fly fish or spin cast from a 23-foot skiff in about 2 feet of water.   Don’t be fooled by the shallow water!  These fish are very tricky and very exciting to catch!

If you are new to this type of fishing, why not give it a try for yourself? Our Guides are patient, helpful, and we want to show you how much fun this can be!

If you catch Jacks, Snappers, Groupers, or Barracudas…you got your dinner!

Included:  Full day fishing, 23-foot flats fishing boat, Lunch, Guide, Captain and crew, live bait, cooler with water (let us know what other snacks or beverages to include), safety gear.

Not Included:  Alcoholic beverages (can be requested), Gratuities.  Let us know if you need fishing gear when you get here.

Reef Fishing / Bottom Fishing

Reef Fishing is the most popular fishing adventure for anglers of all ages.  Why?  The fish are plentiful, can be very feisty but catchable, and best of all, they are great eating!  Your day begins early from the pier nearest your hotel, and we head for the Reef. We cruise around the Inner Reef checking out the likely nooks and channels where the Snappers, Barracuda, Jacks and Groupers like to hide. Later, we may move to the leeward side of the cayes or mangroves, both great hiding spots.

The best Bottom Fishing, is found beyond the Reef or around the channels.   We are looking for Snappers and maybe Groupers!  We throw the chum overboard, let it sink to the bottom then troll for the bottom fish.   When it’s time for lunch, we can pull into a sandy beach for leisurely BBQ lunch, and a quick refreshing swim, before heading out.

Included:  Full day fishing, 23-foot skiff depending on your group. Lunch, Guide, Captain and crew, bait, cooler with water (let us know what other snacks or beverages to include), safety gear, picnic lunch or beach BBQ.

Not Included:  Alcoholic beverages (can be requested), Gratuities.  Let us know if you need help with fishing gear when

Combo Trips

This is great fun for a family or a group of friends who want a casual day on the water.  For the anglers in the group, your Guide gets your lines in the water to start fishing.   For others who just want an adventure on the water, this is an amazing classroom with colorful birds, lush jungles with hanging vines, and lazy iguanas.   We could possibly encounter a pod of Dolphins, or spot some Manatees and other incredible marine life.  The water is very clear and you will not be disappointed!

We board our 23-foot skiff (see Fishing Info/Our Gear page) at the pier nearest your hotel.  The Guides will know what to look for and tell you when to have your camera ready! Some of the best spots are around Cerros Peninsula, the New River, Laguna Seca near Orchid Bay, or east along the coast toward Sarteneja.

At lunchtime, we’ll take our catch to a sandy beach for a leisure beach BBQ, and a refreshing swim. After lunch, we will find a new spot to explore or may return to a good spot we found earlier. You set the pace for this day on the water. Our goal is to make it the most enjoyable special day for everyone. Let us know how your family and friends would like to spend the day, and we will get you there…the fish are free!

Tarpon Fishing

This is the perfect 4-hour finish to your day!  Night fishing is about spin casting for Tarpon which are more active at night. You can see them plainly, and what a thrill to catch them! Tarpons are catch and release, but any other fish you catch, you can take home for dinner. This is a fun trip!

We prepare the equipment and the get the boat ready earlier so we don’t disturb the fish once we get there. We head out around 4 pm to find good fishing grounds before it gets too dark. Pretty soon you will see action on the surface of the water…the tarpon are feeding! Get your line ready with a good plug or some bait and toss it in. When it gets dark, we turn the lanterns on and we show you all the tricks of fishing in the dark! We head back around 8 pm. This is great sports fishing and you can take whatever you catch home for dinner… except for the Tarpon!
